The Star Casino in Sydney is the second largest casino in Australia, behind the Crown Casino in Melbourne. It opened to much fanfare in 1995 and has been the go-to spot for the entire state of New South Wales’ casino gamers. It is owned by Echo Entertainment, and has been since 2011, when ownership changed from TABCorp, which is also around the same time the casino became Star Casino, previously being Star City Casino (which many locals still refer to).

While the actual gaming area is of a reasonable size, split over two floors, it is by no means the biggest part of the Star Casino. Included in the building is the Lyric Theatre, home to many touring productions such as Strictly Ballroom or entertainers on their tour of Australia. Along with the theater, Star Casino is also a hotel, with around 350 rooms, and approximately 130 private apartments. Along with this, there are several bars and restaurants dotted around the complex, with the most impressive being the sports bar, which shows all the main sports channels in Australia, meaning patrons can immerse themselves in the sporting action, while also having a bet at the large TAB outlet at the side of the bar. At the other end of the casino from the sports bar lies Rocklily, a bar that features entertainment over the weekend, ranging from solo performers to dueling pianos and everything in between. There are several other bars in the Star Casino, along with the Marquee nightclub, which, since 2012, has been the hot spot for those that want to be seen in Sydney due to the high-profile performers that frequent the nightspot. When it comes to food, there is something for everyone at the Star Casino, with casual dining options available all the way up to the five star (or Three Hat) delights of David Chang’s Momofuku Seiobo restaurant. If the mood takes you, there is also a small shopping section near the front entrance of the Star Casino, with the kind of high-profile shops you would expect from an upmarket casino.

The casino itself offers the traditional games you would come to expect at a casino, with dozens of baccarat tables, several roulette tables, even more blackjack tables along with other variations of the game such as pontoon and pinkjack, a few craps tables are on the floor, as well as Asian games such as sic bo and pai gow. The main game in the Star Casino, as with most casinos, is the electronic gaming, with almost 1,500 electronic games on the floor, most of them being slot machines, although there are many electronic roulette machines, too, along with video poker machines.
