On February 13, 2020, games developer Betsoft released Total Overdrive, a retro whose themes range from neon signage to classic slot symbolism. Betsoft’s relatable games include: Mega Gems (June 2013), Mega Jackpot (January 2013), Sin City Nights (January 2017), At the Movies (June 2012), Mr. Vegas (June 2010), and Weekend Vegas (June 2015).
Total Overdrive’s rival games include 5 Neon (December 2018) from iSoftBet, Space Neon (November 2018) from GamePlay, and Neon Rush Splitz (March 2020) from Yggdrasil. Nine symbols (wild, 777, 7, cherries, diamond, bell, triple BAR, double BAR, and single BAR) require three winning combinations.
Total Overdrive Game Characteristics
Total Overdrive has an unframed and transparent 3X3 grid, with free-standing purple reels. The dotted grid is set on an extensive purple-and-black photovoltaic cell, with a star-studded sky complementing the neon-lit streamline moderne cityscape in the background.
There are five left-to-right fixed paylines, ten symbols, eight total bets, sticky and non-sticky progressive win multipliers, neither free games nor a side game, and regularly pays from $0.01 to $500.00.
Total Overdrive has two special symbols and eight ordinary symbols. Special symbols: the win multiplier is a purple triangle with filaments; and the substitute is glossy purple-and-blue overlapping “wild” triangles.
Ordinary symbols: a sunny orange-and-red 777; an orange-and-red 7; and striped neon-lit red-and-green cherries, shiny blue diamond, yellow bell, teal-and-gray triple BAR, teal-and-gray double BAR, and teal-and-gray single BAR.
Total Overdrive bet sizes: $0.05 (minimum bet), $0.10, $0.25, $0.50, $1.25, $2.50, $5.00, and $10.00 (maximum bet).
The $10.00 bet offers these dynamic Total Overdrive payouts for three winning combinations. 777 pays $500.00. 7 pays $200.00. Cherries pay $40.00. Diamond pays $30.00. Bell pays $20.00. Triple BAR pays $8.00. Double BAR pays $6.00. Single BAR pays $4.00. Any three mismatching BARs pay $2.00. Three so-called overdrive wilds pay X50, which is a maximum of $500.00.
There are sticky and non-sticky win multipliers. These progressive multipliers begin from X1—+1X (or X2) for the first win—and are capped at X10. For the non-sticky win multiplier (called overdrive multiplier) to increase repeatedly, there must be back-to-back winning combinations; unfortunately, these multipliers restart from X1 if there is any in-between winless spin. Fortunately, the ongoing sticky win multipliers do not restart from X1 even if there are up to eight winless spins.
Both the sticky and non-sticky multipliers use a similar symbol; however, there are piled neon lines atop the symbol during the sticky multiplier-related spins. Total Overdrive’s non-progressive jackpot is X1450, which (1450X10) is $14500.00.
The good Total Overdrive software features: uses html5 technology; supports desktops, and both Android and iOS smartphones; optional quick spin; and has 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 40, 50 and 100 autospins, with a preset maximum loss limit and win limit. Ambient background: disco instrumental. Sound effects: jingling and bleeping. The animated 3D graphics include: glistening, falling coins, power flash, sparkling photovoltaic system, electromagnetic pulse, and pulsating filaments.
