What is the $10 Progressive Betting System?

The $10 Progression System is a system that is used mostly when playing blackjacks. However, it can also be used for nearly all casinos games with a little tinkering here and there.

The idea of the Progression System is that it minimizes loses and maximizes wins. The minimum bet in this system depends on how much you are prepared to lose. So, let’s say you have a $500 bankroll to play blackjack with. With that, we’ll do a $10 Progression System. If you have $100, make it a $2 Progression System, $1,000 will be a $20 Progression System and so on.

The betting sequence in the $10 Progression is as follows:

10-10-15-15-20-20-30-30-50-50-70-70-100-100.

The maximum bet stays at $100 in this progression, even if you do get to the to end of the progression. So, every time you win, you move up a step on the progression ladder. And once you lose a bet, you go back to the first step in the sequence.

The main theory behind this system is that you can only ever lose $10 at a time, so your loses are minimized at the table, while your wins can end up being quite substantial if you go on a winning run. The reason the first bet after a winning bet is to ensure that if you lose 50% of hands, you won’t make a loss, which is statistically sound. The third bet is $15 to ensure that you make a profit regardless of the result: if you win, you’ve won $10, $10 and $15. If you lose, you’ve won $10, $10 and then lost $15, so you’ve still made a $5 profit. This idea continues up the ladder, so that once you get a streak going, you’ll make a profit even once you hit a losing hand.

Now, because this is a blackjack strategy, you also have to take into account being dealt blackjacks and splits. If you get dealt a blackjack, you skip a level on the ladder. So, if you get dealt blackjack on your first $15 bet, move on to your first $20 bet. If you win a double, skip two levels of the ladder, unless the money you would end up risking is more than the money you won, in which case you’d only skip one level. So, if you are on the first $15 bet, move to the second $20 bet. However, if you are on the second $30 bet, you would only skip one level, as you won $60, but if you skipped two levels, you would be wagering $70, which is more than you won. Keeping up? I hope so!

So, if you win eight hands in a row using this system, you’ll have made $150, which is nice, right?

But things are never that simple. Like most betting systems, the $10 Progression System relies on the player going on a “hot streak”. There really is no such thing as a hot streak and your chances of losing 10 hands in a row is just as much as it is of winning 10 hands in a row. Plus, the system has a “failsafe” built in so that you can’t lose if you lose 50% of hands. However, because blackjack has a built-in house edge, you won’t win 50% of hands unless you are a professional player and are card counting, in which case, you won’t have any use for the $10 Progression System, anyway.

Ultimately, like most systems, you will lose in the long run. As stated above, it relies on the player winning 50% of all hands and that won’t happen and eventually you will hit a losing run that does your bankroll. For example, you lose the first five hands and you’ve already lost $50. You’d then have to win six hands in a row to make a profit (which would be $20 in this case). However, if you lose the seventh hand, you’re back to having lost $10.

The $10 Progression System is simply a way of losing money a lot slower than systems like the Martingale System, as you’re not wagering large amounts at any one time. In that respect, it’s similar to the Anti-Martingale System and just like that system, it’s a loser in the long run. Anything that is designed to capitalize on “hot streaks” is simply perpetuating Gambler’s Fallacy, which is a road to the poor house.

Hopefully you’ve tried out this system on our free Flash blackjack game. If that’s not for you, head on over to Bovada, where you can download their software for free and try it out on their play money tables and you can see if it’s a viable system or if it is, in fact, a system that’s going to leave you broke.

Do Casinos Let You Use The $10 Progression Betting System?

Like all systems, both online and offline casinos will be more than accommodating to you if you want to use a betting system. If you’re worried you might break the bank by using the system, warn the casino in advance. I’m sure they’ll be happy to take that risk and let you play at their tables. Again, this system is just another way for the pit boss to get his holiday to the Caribbean paid for!
