What Is The Biggest Casino in France?

France is one of the biggest countries in Europe in several categories. It is the third biggest in terms of land mass, the fourth biggest in terms of population and is the second ranked country on the continent in terms of GDP. It is one of the hubs of Europe in terms of tourism, economy and industry, and is often claimed to be the heart of culture in the world. There are many things France is famous for, from the Louvre and the Mona Lisa, to the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe. France has also made an impression in the world of cooking and baking, with many French dishes and pastries considered to be the pinnacle of their fields. In short, France has left an indelible mark on almost every part of society.

In fact, France is one of the pioneers of gambling as we know it. Several classic casino games originated in this European country, including baccarat and roulette. Frenchman Blaise Pascal invented the roulette wheel as we know it, while the game of baccarat as is played around the world (mostly the punto banco variation) originates from the French game chemin de fer. However, being at the forefront of casino gambling does not mean that France has always been forward thinking when it comes to other forms of gambling. Online gambling was not legal in France until 2010, and slot machines were not legal in the country until 1988. While hardly archaic in comparison to other countries around the world, it is puzzling that one of the forefathers of modern gambling had restrictions on various forms of casino gaming.

However, France is a country full of casinos, with almost 200 in total spread out over the entire country. No one area is a hot bet for casinos, although Paris lays claim to the most casinos in the country with eight currently operating in the city. However, the biggest casino in France is not in Paris. In fact, the biggest casino in France is the Lyon Vert Casino, which, as the name implies, is in the city of Lyon, on the outskirts at 200 Avenue du Casino.

The exterior of the Lyon Vert Casino is visually impressive. It has an art deco style to it, with an all-white exterior which exudes class. From the outside alone, you can tell that the Lyon Vert Casino is an upmarket casino in the mold of classic European casinos. And once inside, the art deco feel continues, with the expensive fixtures and fittings you would expect.

The Lyon Vert Casino currently has 350 electronic gaming machines, with 106 traditional slot machines, 120 video slot machines and 124 video poker machines. The stakes start from one cent slot machines, up to 5 euro video poker machines. The slot machine area in the Lyon Vert Casino is open from 10am until 4am Sunday to Thursday, and 10am until 5am on Fridays and Saturdays. All the latest machines are accounted for, and there is also a progressive jackpot which is linked in to 42 casinos in France, ensuring a huge jackpot for anyone fortunate enough to win it.

As for table games, the Lyon Vert Casino does not disappoint either. There are four options for visitors to the casino, with four tables of blackjack, four roulette tables, two tables offering La Boule (a French variant of roulette which features nine numbers on the wheel with three colors on each number), and one table of La Bataille (which is essentially Casino War with a French spin on it). The tables games are open from 8pm every evening and close at 4am every Sunday through Thursday, and the opening hours are extended until 5am on Fridays and Saturdays.

There is also a large poker room at the Lyon Vert Casino which is open from 8pm until 4am Sunday to Thursday, and 8pm until 5am every Friday and Saturday. The poker room runs a choice of three cash games at the moment, with 100NLH (2/4 euro blinds), 200NLH (5/5 euro blinds) and 400NLH (5/10 euro blinds).

The Lyon Vert Casino also has La Rotonde and Le Caz on site for visitors to dine at, while the bar at Le Caz allows guests to have a drink or two in an elegance.
