Roulette: How to use the Martingale Betting System

For the novice gamblers out there, there is no betting system quite like the Martingale Betting System. It’s such an easy system for novices to pick up and you can use it on most casino games. However, in its purest form, the Martingale Betting System is perfect for games where there are bets that pay 1-1. This is perhaps why the Martingale Betting system is perfect for playing roulette.

It must be noted that at Casino Answers, we don’t like using the Martingale Betting System. We think it’s dangerous for your bankroll and isn’t a guarantee to untold riches, like some people will have you believe. However, it can be fun to use as long as you’re sensible with it. Just don’t go in thinking you’ll be able to be a new Mercedes with your winnings and you’ll be fine.

First off, if you want to use the Martingale Betting System when playing roulette, you need to have a casino to play at. Bovada is one of the top casinos out there and they have a good selection of roulette games to play. Plus, they do accept American players, so Bodog Casino is definitely one of the top places to play.

There is also Jackpot City Casino(Non-US Only), if you’re looking for a bit of diversity, as they have seven different types of roulette you can play. It’s perfect if you want to try out the Martingale Betting System at the roulette table.

So, we’ve chosen what casino we want to play at, now we have to decide what form of roulette to play. Since we’re using the Martingale Betting System, we want to keep the house edge as minimal as possible and that means playing European roulette, as there’s only one zero on the wheel.

Now, to use the Martingale Betting System when playing roulette, we’ll bet on a specific color. For the purposes of this, we’ll just bet on black every spin of the wheel. Now, the concept of the betting system is that if we lose, we double our bet. So, we’ll start off with a one unit bet on black, then a two unit bet on black, then four, then eight and so on.

We make our first bet on black and sadly the ball lands on 5 red. Typical! So, using our system, we make it a two unit bet on black. Again, the ball misses our color, this time landing on 1 red. Up the stakes to 4 units! This time we hit and the ball lands on 11 black. So, now we’re in profit to the tune of one unit.

What you should do now, using the Martingale Betting System is bank that one unit and start the sequence again from one. Once you win, the original sequence ends and you start again from scratch.

I know what you’re thinking – this is impossible to lose, because it will come up black eventually and we’ll have made our one unit. Well, if that was the case, there would be a lot of bankrupt casinos around the world. But there are many reasons why using the Martingale Betting System on roulette is doomed. First off, each spin of the wheel is independent, so it could come up red 1,000 times in a row, or we could get really lucky and it comes up black 1,000 times in a row.

There is no such thing as something “due” to happen. That’s known as “gambler’s fallacy”. Secondly, what happens if you get to 10 loses in a row? Well, you’ll be betting 1,024 units to win one. You will have lost 1,023 units to get to this point and if your bankroll can withstand that type of hit, fair enough. But you must remember that you’ll be betting 1,024 units to end up with a profit of one. It’s a bit sick, is it not?

Finally, say your betting units are $10 and you get to that point, there might not be many casinos out there that would lay you a $10,000 bet on a spin of a roulette wheel. Sure, the high roller casinos will, but not your regular ones. They’ve already got $10,000 off of you, they’re more than happy!

So, there are many reasons not to use the Martingale Betting System when playing roulette. If you do decide to try it out, try it out carefully and remember that even if you do come out ahead once or twice, it will probably end in tears somewhere down the line.

Due to their betting limits, a great place to try out Roulette is
